July 05 — July 18
K8 Hardy was born in 1977 in Fort Worth, TX, lives and works in New York, NY. K8 Hardy is an artist working in an array of mediums including video, photography, sculpture, painting, performance, and fashion. Through her art practice she intentionally exploits persona, pop culture, and humor. Long before the ubiquity of the selfie, Hardy was experimenting in documenting her looks and various versions of selves. Her work takes us to the edge of “good taste” and makes us question those parameters. Hardy came up through the Riot Grrrl scene. She has participated avidly in collaborations, activism, and collectives, including W.A.G.E. and LTTR. Her work is in the collection of The MoMA, The Guggenheim, and Whitney Museum of American Art amongst other institutions. She has exhibited widely. Hardy's education includes M.F.A. Milton Avery Graduate School for the Arts, Bard College, NY (2008), Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, New York, NY (2003) B.A., Film and Women’s Studies, Smith College, Northampton, MA (2000), Columbia University, New York, NY (undergraduate studies) (1998).
