threeASFOURcuba is both a retrospective runway show and exhibition of films. threeASFOUR aimed to work with local Cuban arts institutions and collaborate with local musicians, dancers, craftsmen and models. The runway show is comprised of a curated selection of designs from each of the trio’s collections since 2005, with several new designs that pay homage to Cuban culture. Their designs showcase a variety of techniques from the ancient to the most cutting edge, including circular patterns; extensive use of hand embroideries and handcrafts; intricate laser cut fabrics and leathers; digital fractal prints; as well as the use of 3D printing techniques. threeASFOUR are the first foreigners ever invited to stage a fashion show at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes Cubano. The exhibition will examine seven of the collective’s films, an integral part of threeASFOUR’s creative practice, along with public programming. CuCu Diamantes, Cuba’s National Museum of Fine Arts, and CuCuLand co-produced the show and exhibition, along with and New York-based cultural non-profit, BOFFO (with the support of the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation) and the Cuban Artists Fund.
threeASFOUR is a trio of transnational artists based in New York City who use fashion as their primary medium. Founded in 2005 by Gabriel Asfour (b. Lebanon), Angela Donhauser (b. U.S.S.R) and Adi Gil (b. Israel), the collective has built a legacy of fusing cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship to create clothing at the intersection of fashion and art. Drawing their core aesthetic from the universal languages of sacred geometry, threeASFOUR is devoted to the creative exploration of themes of consciousness and cultural coexistence.
