NIGHTWOOD: A Drag King Performance is named after the legendary Djuna Barnes novel, Nightwood, a whimsical, gothic lesbian narrative from 1936, and serves as a double entendre for an evening with DRAG KINGS. As a means to stimulate pride in lesbian history and a dying out performance art, Nightwood brings in members of the lesbian and queer community to perform, reclaim masculinity, and engage with our peers.

Sarah Zapata is an artist and writer based in Brooklyn, NY. Her practice deals with the duality of identity as a Peruvian-American woman, investigating how these legacies relate to evangelical and indigenous power structures. She has exhibited and performed at the Museum of Arts and Design, el Museo del Barrio, LAXart, Deli Gallery, Chamber, and Situations.

Lily Marotta is a character actress and performer living in Brooklyn, NY. Lily co-created and starred in the darkly comedic web series Monica The Miniseries (Paste Magazine’s Top 10 web-series). She co-hosts a monthly L Word trivia night, performs around NYC and is desperate for more followers @lilyblueeyes!

Quori Theodor is a trans artist living and loving in NYC. Their sculpture explores the celestial everyday, intersectionality, and materials following a personal narrative arch. On two separate occasions they were asked if they received training in Italian clowning. They did not.
