BOFFO is honored to present POSES: PaJaMa & A.R.M. in Dialogue, curated by Matthew Leifheit, at the historic Carrington Cottage in Fire Island. PaJaMa, Fire Island’s first queer collective, was composed of painters Paul Cadmus, Jared French, and Margaret Hoening French. Beginning in 1937, they staged statuesque, surrealist-influenced snapshots in the dunes of Fire Island. In 2014, artist collective A.R.M. (Alexandro Segade, Robbie Acklen, and Malik Gaines) participated in the BOFFO Residency Fire Island, presenting “Fire Signs”, a multi-media performance inspired by Fire Island and the historic work of PaJaMa.

On August 7-15, these two bodies of work are placed in conversation with one another, cohering a multisensory, trans-temporal exhibition in the newly restored Carrington Cottage, courtesy of the U.S. National Park Service.

These histories, along with contemporary contributions to Fire Island’s artistic legacy shines a fitting light on the Carrington Cottage as a lasting site of inspiration and heritage.

OPENING RECEPTION – August 7th, 3-6pm at 365 Fire Island Blvd and the Carrington Cottage.
