It’s hard to describe the combination of pain, anger, and hope so many people have been feeling over the past weeks. It’s hard to not be in NYC fighting alongside our friends to end the incessant racism that plagues our country. The first residency of the season with Spiral Theory Test Kitchen (STTK) started with Quori & Bobbi’s beloved dog Logan passing away and they had to leave. With Precious still on Fire Island without their partners, we weren’t sure what to do. So we waited, we cooked, we talked, and we cared for each other and our friends. Unbeknownst to us, several of our past artist residents, Telfar, Dis, DeSe, and Raul de Nieves, planned their own Fire Island trip and arrived mid week. K8 Hardy and TM Davy, along with other artists and family, were already here. The community helped us recente. We were determined to forge onward; the intention to support social change was more pressing than ever. Feeling both apart and connected with Bobbi, Quori, and so many friends in New York and elsewhere, knowing how policed, exhausted, and overwhelmed everyone feels, it became clear what Spiral Theory Test Kitchen was meant to do with their residency. “The word responsibility comes from ‘our ability to respond.’ In light of recent losses, we have decided to turn our residency into a place of repose for black loved ones. Embedding our respond-abilities into the fibers of our collective, our relationships, and most importantly ourselves, into each moment that brings the next, remains STTK’s mission and project. Thank you for joining us in this effort.” - STTK With the resources provided by BOFFO they welcomed Diamond Stingily, Sean-Kierre Lyons, and Gabrielle Octavia Rucker with love.
