Malik Gaines and Alexandro Segade, BOFFO Residency Fire Island artists in residence, together with collaborator Robbie Acklen, present Fire Signs, a multi-media performance inspired by their time on Fire Island. Taking Margaret French, Jared French and Paul Cadmus “Collaboration” 1940s photography book as a point of departure and iconographic reference, the artists crystallize their impressions after their first contact with the social, architectural and natural landscape of Fire Island and The Pines. Playing with their own Californian identities and the affinities suggested through astrology, Gaines, Segade and Acklen will explore creative group relationships through recreations of the photographs taken by the Frenches and Cadmus.
